1 Fopma wins race at Noelridge Park

Marion distance ace Jeremy Fopma showed, yet again, why he's the man to beat in eastern Iowa. Last weekend at the Cedar Rapids Invitational hosted by Cedar Rapids Washington at Noelridge Park, Fopma won by more than 30 seconds, leaving runner-up Caden Turnbough from City High and third-place Linn-Mar runner Dylan Dolezal in the dust.
   
2 Indians defeat VS, go 2-2 at Linn-Mar

The Marion volleyball team started off the week strong with a 3-0 victory over WaMaC rival Vinton-Shellsburg before splitting four games at the Linn-Mar Volleyball Invitational. After winning three matches and losing two, the Indians now own a record of 7-4 overall.
   
3 Lions capture L-M Invite

The Linn-Mar Varsity Volleyball Invitational Tournament has been around since 2009 when Dubuque Hempstead won the inaugural tourney championship. The Lions have never claimed the title of their own meet - until now. The Lions went 6-0 for the day and reigned supreme over the competition to become the sixth different program to win the meet title.
   
4 Paulsen, Mohwinkle run wild on Sabers

After suffering a disappointing 17-14 loss to Benton Community in week two, the Marion football team rebounded nicely by dominating Central DeWitt by a 49-3 final tally last Friday night. The Indian rushing attack accounted for well over 300 yards and five touchdowns due in large part to the dynamic duo of quarterback Trevor Paulsen and running back Chris Mohwinkle.
   
5 Bobcats edge Indians

After lighting up the scoreboard in week one, the Marion football team struggled to move the ball consistently and put up points as they suffered a 17-14 loss to Benton Community in Van Horne last Friday evening. The Indian offense put up just 110 yards of total offense in the losing effort.
   
6 Liberty earns first round bye in WNBA Playoffs

The WNBA Playoffs are slated to begin on Wednesday, September 6, as Linn-Mar alum Kiah Stokes and her New York Liberty will wait and see who they will do battle with in the second round of the tournament. After a strong late season push, the Liberty earned the number three seed and will play their first postseason game on Sunday, September 10, against an opponent that is yet to be determined.
   
7 Linn-Mar spikers champions at Warrior Invite

An early pool play setback did not slow down the Linn-Mar volleyball team's effort nor rattle their cage. After losing their first game to Cedar Rapids, Xavier, the Lions won four straight games to claim the championship at the annual Warrior Invitational hosted by Cedar Rapids, Washington.
   
8 Marion volleyball wins three, loses two

A stretch of solid play landed the Marion volleyball team in the final four of the Warrior Invitational hosted by Cedar Rapids Washington last Saturday in Cedar Rapids. The Indians were winners of three of their five matches, getting bounced in the semifinals by Linn-Mar.
   
9 Poellet, Geelan finish 1-2 at Linn-Mar invite

The fantasic freshman duo of Micah Poellet and Lilly Geelan dominated the competition as the pair finished first and second respectively at the annual Linn-Mar Cross Country Invitational. Both the Linn-Mar boys and girls teams competed with five other programs on Saturday, September 2, at Lowe Park.
   
10 Xavier shuts out Lions

A stifling defensive performance from the Xavier Saints resulted in the Linn-Mar football team's second loss of the season as the Lions now sit at 0-2 overall. Xavier, who owns the top ranking in Class 3A according to various media polls, handled Linn-Mar by a final tally of 16-0 in Cedar Rapids last Friday evening.
