11 Stokes lifts Liberty to victory

Former Linn-Mar Lion Kiah Stokes had a monster performance over the weekend during her return to the Midwest. The defensive standout at the University of Connecticut had one of the best games of her professional career on Sunday as she recorded a double-double in the New York Liberty's 86-82 win over the Chicago Sky.
12 Lions sweep Cedar Falls

The Linn-Mar baseball team is now riding a four-game winning streak after taking down the Cedar Falls Tigers twice on Friday night. The Lions disposed of the Tigers by counts to 13-4 and 9-4 to earn their 17th and 18th wins of the season, pushing their record of 18-16 overall.
13 Maquoketa bounces Indians

In an attempt to avenge an early season loss, the Marion Indians softball girls took the field for postseason play last Thursday afternoon against the Maquoketa Cardinals. The stage was set and simple: win or go home. Unfortunately for Marion, their season abruptly ended after a 10-0 defeat to their WaMaC rival.
14 Marion splits with Vikings

The Marion baseball team needed a pair of wins over Vinton-Shellsburg to stay alive in the hunt for the WaMaC West Division title race. Unfortunately, the Indians were only victors in one of the two contests after losing game one, 4-3, and winning game two, 6-5. The split pushed Marion's record to a solid 28-8 overall for the 2017 campaign.
15 Queens of the jungle trample Tigers thrice

Five was the magic number set for the Linn-Mar Lion softball team when postseason brackets were released by the IGHSAU. Five wins would get them the 2017 Class 5A Iowa High School State Softball Championship. But, as everyone knows, you can't get to five without getting one and two and so on. Last Saturday was the Lions' opportunity to get the first win and the team capitalized on their shot, eliminating Cedar Falls by virtue of a 5-2 win after defeating the Tigers in a doubleheader on Monday, July 3, with scores of 13-3 and 10-0.

This is the time of the year you want your team to peak and that is the case for the Marion softball team. After a sluggish start to the season, the Indians have picked up some steam and are now winners of four in a row after sweeping both South Tama County and Cedar Rapids Washington last week.
17 Indians earn three shutouts, split with Beckman

The Marion baseball team's hot stretch of play continued last week after picking up a shutout win over North Cedar in non-conference play, a pair of shutouts over Solon and a split with Dyersville Beckman. Winners of seven out of their last eight, the Indians now own a record of 24-7 on the season.
18 Lions crush Wahlert, prepare for playoffs

After splitting a double-header with Cedar Rapids Xavier to start the week, the Linn-Mar softball team destroyed Dubuque Wahlert in both contests in a double-header by a combined score of 26-0. The Lions won game one by an 8-0 count and finished off the Golden Eagles with an 18-0 win in game two. With three more regular season games left on the schedule, Linn-Mar will get their first look at their regional semifinal opponent as they square off with Cedar Falls.
19 Lions drop two against West

The Linn-Mar baseball squad knew they would have their hands full last Friday night. The Lions hit the road for a double-header against the third-ranked Iowa City West Trojans and suffered a pair of losses, one by a 2-0 final score and one by a 10-2 tally. The losses dropped Linn-Mar back below .500 with a record of 14-16 overall.
20 Paige to play on OKC summer league squad

Former Linn-Mar Lion and North Carolina Tar Heel star Marcus Paige started off his professional career playing for the Salt Lake City Stars, the G-League affiliate of the NBA's Utah Jazz. While not seeing any time at the NBA level this season, the point guard will be trying to make the leap to the next level and will attempt to turn heads in the NBA's annual Summer League. Except Paige won't be playing for the Jazz this summer: the 23-year-old guard will be playing in the Summer League with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
