11 Indian wrestlers prep for upcoming competition

Last week, the Marion High School wrestling team started off the season with a dual at Cedar Rapids Washington and competed at the Guilford Invitational at Monticello High School. While at Washington High School, the Indians competed against Mount Vernon first, losing by a score of 28-35.

The top-ranked team in Class 4A girls' basketball has shown why they're holding the number one spot last week in a couple of different situations. After destroying both Maquoketa and Solon to start off the week, the Marion Indians trailed heading into the fourth quarter against Cedar Rapids, Prairie. Facing a seven-point deficit entering the final stanza, coach Corby Laube's team remained calm but turned up the heat on the Hawks in the fourth quarter to earn a 58-53 victory.
   
13 Linn-Mar 13th at Cliff Keen Invite

The Cliff Keen Invitational wrestling tournament held annually is right up there with the best of the best tournaments for Iowa high school wrestling. With teams from all of the Midwest gathering at Independence last weekend, the Linn-Mar wrestling team saw a lot of different faces and placed 13th overall with 181.5 team points.
   
14 Linn-Mar fifth at Sun Prairie Invite

The Linn-Mar boys' swimming and diving team took a little trip to Wisconsin over the week to the Sun Prairie Invitational Swim Meet in Sun Prairie. Battling some of the top teams in the Midwest, the Lions held their own against the tough 11-team field, placing fifth in the team race.
   
15 Lions girls thump City High bowlers

The Linn-Mar girls' bowling team got off to a hot start last Friday at Colonial Lanes as they destroyed City High by a final count of 2521-1617.
   
16 Lions pick up two road wins

Starting the season out on the road isn't the easiest thing to do for any team in any sport, but it didn't seem to bother the Linn-Mar boys' basketball team. The Lions hit the road twice last week and took care of business both times, toppling Cedar Rapids Kennedy by a 59-44 final, and stomping Bettendorf 59-34 on Saturday, December 2.
   
17 Lions slide to 0-5

The Linn-Mar girls' basketball team's rough start to the season continued last week, suffering three losses and falling to 0-5 to start the season. After a 48-point loss to City High, the Lions lost by one and three points, respectively, on Friday and Saturday nights to Waterloo West and Muscatine.
   
18 Marion topples Cardinals, fall to Solon

The Marion boys' basketball team started off the season on a bit of a roller coaster, edging Maquoketa by a 59-55 tally before falling to Solon by a 55-54 final on the road last Friday night.
   
19 Brooks, Higgins Make INA All-State Teams

Marion senior Blair Brooks and Linn-Mar senior Riley Higgins were selected to the INA All-State Football teams for their performances on the football field this season. Brooks was selected to the Class 3A Third Team as a receiver while Higgins was a Class 4A Third Team selection at defensive line.
   
20 Marion girls dominate Linn-Mar at Rivalry game on Saturday

No matter the sport, a loss will always leave a sour taste in your mouth. When you don't lose very much, that taste gets even more sour. In the case of the Marion girls' basketball team, the team dealt with two very sour losses last season: once in the state championship game to North Scott, and another to its cross-town rival, Linn-Mar. The loss to the Lions came at Rivalry Saturday last year, but at this year's event, the Indians made sure the team wasn't taking another loss on its record, and the girls took care of business by a final score of 61-16.
