11 Coates excels at State Archery meet

It was a deep field loaded with competition from all over the state of Iowa at the 2017 Iowa State Archery meet, but that didn't stop Marion freshman Reid Coates from finishing towards the top of the leaderboard last week. Coates finished with a score of 282 to place 38th out of 814 competitors on the boys' side of the field. The freshman showed great poise with 16 Tens, also having the seventh best score out of freshmen at the state meet.
12 Indians finish second in Class 4A

With just one quarter remaining in the Class 4A State Championship game last Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, the Marion Indians led by four points and were looking to hold on to reach their season-long goal: win the state title. After fighting off comeback attempts from Boone in their opening round contest and Pella in the semifinals, the Indians were unable to prevent a comeback from North Scott as the Lancers ultimately prevailed in overtime by a final score of 50-42. The game ended the Indians' season with a record of 24-2 overall and a second-place finish in Class 4A.
13 L-M alum Parry arrested in Arizona

Indianapolis Colts defensive lineman and Linn-Mar alum David Parry was recently arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona. The 25-year-old was arrested on suspicion of robbery, auto theft, criminal damage, resisting arrest, and DUI charges after the Stanford graduate allegedly stole a transportation cart.
14 Rice, Laube earn INA All-State honors

Marion basketball standouts Chloe Rice and Kayba Laube were recognized by the Iowa Newspaper Association as All-State student-athletes for their accomplishments on the court this winter. Rice, a junior, was selected to the Class 4A First Team while Laube, a freshman, was selected to the Class 4A Second Team. This is Rice's third time being selected as a Class 4A All-Stater and her second consecutive year as a First Team selection. Laube was one of just three freshman to earn All-State honors this season.
15 CP-U ends Marion's season

In the rubber match between WaMaC West Division rivals with the opportunity to advance deeper into the Class 3A postseason picture, the Center Point-Urbana Stormin' Pointers dominated throughout the game and sent the Marion boys' basketball team home for the 2017 season after winning by a final tally of 61-35. The performance was very uncharacteristic of the Indians as the 26 point margin was their worst loss of the season.
16 Diercks family stars at State Bowling

For Alex and Mekena Diercks, the goal last Wednesday was to leave Plaza Lanes in Des Moines with Class 3A State Bowling Championships. While both fell just short of achieving their goals of becoming state champions, they were to able to make the trip home with their heads held high. Alex was second individually amongst Class 3A boys with a 470 total score while Mekena was fourth in the Class 3A girls field with a 469.
17 Dowling too much for Lions

The Linn-Mar girls' basketball bunch went toe-to-toe with one of Class 5A's toughest teams last week as they travelled to West Des Moines to do battle with Dowling Catholic. In a game that was tightly matched for most of the contest, Dowling pulled away late to pick up a 53-41 victory over Linn-Mar and ended the Lions' season.
18 Indians earn another State trip

It wasn't pretty at times, but all that matters is getting the job done. And that's what the Marion girls' basketball team did on Tuesday, February 21. The Indians defeated a very talented Keokuk squad by a 46-39 score final in Marion.
19 Rice, Laube earn top All-Metro honors

With the 2017 Class 4A Iowa High School Girls State Basketball Tournament on the horizon, the Marion Indians have their eyes set on bringing home some hardware when their week at Wells Fargo Arena is completed. For junior Chloe Rice and head coach Corby Laube, the hardware is already starting to be awarded. With the 2016-17 All-Metro Girls Basketball selections being announced last week, it was confirmed that Rice was named Girls Athlete of the Year for the All-Metro team while Laube was selected as Coach of the Year.
20 Wieskamp, Muskies too much for Linn-Mar

The Linn-Mar boys' basketball team knew they had their hands full heading into their Class 4A substate semifinal matchup with 2018 Iowa recruit Joe Wieskamp and his Muscatine Muskies club. The Lions fought tooth and nail throughout but when the clock hit zero, it wasn't quite enough. Linn-Mar suffered a season-ending 61-55 loss in Muscatine last Friday night.
