11 Laube commits to St. Thomas University

Marion High School senior Mia Laube and the Marion Indians have their sights set on one thing this upcoming basketball season: a Class 4A State Championship. However, Laube is also looking down the road a little bit as she announced her plans to continue her career as a student-athlete next fall at St. Thomas University located in St. Paul, MN.
   
12 Poellet wins Steve Johnson Invitational

Freshman Micah Poellet continued her strong rookie campaign for the Linn-Mar Girls' Cross Country team on Saturday at the Steve Johnson Invitational in Waverly. Poellet dominated the competition and won the meet with a time of 18:10.10, more than 27 seconds better than runner-up Courtney West from Minnesota's Kasson-Mantorville High School.
   
13 Top-ranked Xavier sweeps Lions

It was a matchup between a pair of top-five ranked schools as volleyball's Class 4A's number one ranked team Cedar Rapids Xavier squared off with Linn-Mar, which sits at number five in the latest Class 5A rankings. The Lions had the home-court advantage but the Saints weren't fazed as they disposed of Linn-Mar in three sets 25-18, 28-21 and 25-19.
   
14 Gritty performance by Lions leads to victory

After suffering losses in the first four contests of the season, the Linn-Mar football team could have easily just thrown in the towel and given a half-hearted effort like you often see at all levels of athletics when things go sour. That wasn't the case last Friday for Coach Paul James' Lions as they roared to their first victory of the season, toppling Ottumwa by a 35-21 final score.
   
15 Lions Compete at Roy Griak Invite

The Roy Griak Invitational is a big deal to the state of Minnesota and its cross country following. One of the biggest prep meets in the country, hosted by the University of Minnesota at Les Bolsted Golf Course in St. Paul, took place over the weekend and the Linn-Mar cross country program made the haul up north to see how they would fare. With hundreds and hundreds of runners lined up against them, the Lions girls' team held their own and were led by Micah Poellet and Lilly Geelan.
   
16 Lions finally best J-Hawks

It was an up-and-down week for the Linn-Mar volleyball team, to say the least, as they suffered their fourth and fifth losses of the season, both to MVC foe Cedar Rapids Jefferson. However, when the dust settled for the week, it was the Lions who got the last laugh over the J-Hawks, claiming the Monticello Tournament title over Jefferson in three sets.
   
17 Lions victorious over Mississippi Division foes

When it comes to crowning the kings of the Mississippi Valley Conference golf world, it is a bit of a grueling process. Scores are tallied over the course of three separate meets and 54 holes total. Consistency is key, and for the Linn-Mar golf team, they've been consistent all year long. It paid off on Monday night as they sealed the deal, winning the 2017 Mississippi Divisional championship with a total score of 907, six strokes better than runner-up Cedar Rapids Xavier.
   
18 Marion fights off Bobcats

The Marion volleyball team hit the road last Tuesday and picked up its 12th win of the season, this time over Benton Community in Van Horne. The Indians needed just three sets to earn the victory, but it didn't come easy as the Bobcats forced Marion to win by scoring more than 25 on two separate occasions, 25-12, 28-26 and 26-24.
   
19 Mohwinkle, Cole lead Indians to victory

The route was on in Maquoketa last Friday and it wasn't in favor of the home team. The Marion Indians rolled into town and crushed the Cardinals by a final score of 62-21, moving Marion's record to 3-2 on the season and setting Maquoketa back to 0-5 for the year.
   
20 Fopma suffers rare loss

Marion senior Jeremy Fopma was defeated on Saturday, something that hasn't happened a lot in his prep cross country career.
