11 Indian Softball team eyes West Delaware

The Marion softball team has experienced a wide array of ups and downs to start the 2017 season. After suffering a 7-0 loss at the hands of Anamosa to open the season, the Indians bounced back back on Saturday, May 27, to win the Central City Softball Tournament after dominating the likes of the host Wildcats, Midland and Clayton Ridge. Since then, Marion has suffered losses against Clear Creek-Amana, Western Dubuque and Jesup while only beating Waterloo West. As of Friday, June 2, the Indians own a record of 4-5 overall.

13 Lions softball looking to rebound

After a very impressive 7-1 start to the 2017 softball season, the Linn-Mar softball team hit a couple of road bumps over the weekend at the Iowa City West Open Softball Tournament. The Lions took four losses in two days at the hands of Bettendorf, Pleasant Valley, Davenport Assumption and Muscatine to fall to 7-5 on the season.
   
14 MHS baseball winners of five straight

After a slow 1-3 start, the Marion baseball team is now firing on all cylinders as the team has now won five games in a row to move to a record of 6-3 in the season. The Indians split with Clear Creek-Amana last week, then swept both Central DeWitt and West Liberty.
   
15 Saints eliminate Indians at Class 2A State

The Marion boy's soccer team made a habit of consistently proving the doubters wrong all season long. A program with just three victories one season ago and no state appearances heading into 2017, the Indians righted the ship this season to make it to the Class 2A Iowa High School State Soccer Championships.
   
16 Union defeats Marion

With a trip to Class 2A Iowa High School State Soccer Tournament on the line, the Marion girls' soccer team ran into a buzzsaw on Monday night. The Indians were thumped by Union, La Porte City by a 9-2 tally as their chances of advancing to final eight were thwarted by a juggernaut Knights team.
   
17 Bobcats stun Lions

The Linn-Mar boys' soccer team's season ended on Monday, May 22, at home with a loss to the Marshalltown Bobcats. The Lions suffered a 1-0 defeat and were eliminated from Class 3A postseason play in the process.
   
18 Indians advance to Class 2A State Tourney

After closing out the regular season on a two-game losing skid, the Marion boys' soccer team bounced back in a big way last week. The Indians knocked out Central DeWitt by a 3-1 count on Wednesday evening to advance to the substate final where they would eliminate Clear Creek-Amana with a shut out, 1-0 victory over the Clippers to qualify for the Class 2A State Tournament in Des Moines.
   
19 Indians thump Maquoketa

The Marion girls' soccer team took care of business last Thursday evening in its opening round matchup of Class 2A postseason play. The Indians advanced to the semifinals of the Class 2A Region 6 bracket with a 6-2 beatdown of the Maquoketa Cardinals.
   
20 Linn-Mar baseball winners of Metro Tourney

The Linn-Mar baseball team got its 2017 season off to a quick start last week after winning the Bob Vrbicek Metro Baseball Tournament for the first time since 1994. The Lions needed three wins to get the trophy, and three wins is what they got.
