11 MISD discusses Emerson Elementary site feasability study

Marion Independent School Board of Education President David Law said at the July 10, 2017, regular meeting at 7 p.m., he has received positive feedback from the MISD community about moving the Home School Assistance Program from 440 15th Street to the Marion Emerson Elementary facility located at 1400 10th Avenue. Board Member Jill Hansen also said several area residents have expressed to her their appreciation for the Board involving them in the repurpose decision-making.

A blown-glass display glistened as bright morning sun-rays shone down on the friendly neighborhood Marion Farmers' Market on Saturday, June 24, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Throughout the morning, dozens of area residents looked over handmade and homegrown items for sale under tents and in Taube Park's pavilion.

Marion City Manager Lon Pluckhahn attended a special meeting with the Marion Public Library Board of Trustees and Director Elsworth Carman at the library on Wednesday, June 14, at 5:30 p.m. He said plans for City funding of the new library in a mixed-use facility are under in-depth review, citing financial constraints.
   
17 City of Marion plans to partner with high school building program

Marion City Manager Lon Pluckhahn informed the Marion Independent School BOE on Monday evening, June 12, that the City is talking about the possibility of including the Marion High School's CTE program with the City's overall strategic Central Corridor plan. Area high school students currently build a home from scratch in Marion each year, and the cost of land is included in the price of the home once it is completed.

20 Connie's Quilt Shop celebrates 25 years

Connie's Quilt Shop in Marion opened a quarter century ago, and recently celebrated the milestone with a 25th Anniversary Sale from May 25-27. Owner Connie Moyer said her customers come into her shop to look over the huge variety of fabrics and patterns available. And quilters travel long distances to visit her shop. "I pull in people from all over - Japan, The Netherlands, Australia," she said.
