11 Metro Marching Band Classic to be Monday

On Monday evening, October 9, the Metro Marching Band Classic event will be held at Kingston Stadium in southwest Cedar Rapids. It begins at 6:30 p.m. and runs until approximately 9 p.m.
   
12 New exhibit opens at Marion Heritage Center

We had been awaiting the opening of a wonderful exhibit at the Heritage Center, and it arrived on Swamp Fox Saturday, September 30, at noon. The name of the exhibit is Marion's Good Roads: Bicycles, Motorcycles & Automobiles on the Transcontinental Routes.
   
13 Board of Directors hold Annual and Organizational meetings

The Linn-Mar Board of Directors held its Annual Meeting on Monday, September 25, 2017, at 5 p.m., followed by its Organizational Meeting at 7 p.m. The sessions were a combination of final actions for 2016-2017 and beginning ones for the 2017-2018 school year.

Sunday, September 10, 2017, marked the 50th anniversary of Ascension Lutheran Church, 2210 Grand Avenue in Marion. It was interesting to note that 50 years ago, the first worship service also occurred on Sunday, September 10. While Ascension is not an "old" church, compared to many others in the area, it still has a rich history.

Toward the beginning of the Marion City Council Meeting on September 7, 2017, K9 Lingo retired from active duty with the Marion Police Department. He was handled by Corporal Jason Schamberger and will spend his retirement with the Schamberger family.
