11 Open House celebrates new Red Cedar Lodge

The public was invited to attend two open houses at the new Red Cedar Lodge at Squaw Creek County Park south of Marion. One was on Thursday, March 2, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and one was held Sunday, March 5, from 1 to 4 p.m.

At this time of year, Optimist clubs everywhere conduct oratorical contests so that young men and women have a chance to experience what it is like to speak before a group.
18 Shriners changing lives and aiding families in need

Over the past few months we have seen many situations in which the Shriners have assisted children. We were invited to their Christmas party, which was a joyous event, and to speak with Seth and Jade McGill as their son Jude faced serious surgery in December, and came through well.
19 Doing a Good Turn

Boys and leaders in Scouting try to do a Good Turn (something to help someone) daily. In this case, Boy Scout Troop 501 and Cub Scout Pack 501 saw that North Linn School District needed a U.S. flag to hang in the elementary gym, so they got one as well as a plaque and presented them to Mrs. Sarah Meyer of North Linn Elementary during an 8 a.m. assembly on Presidents' Day.
20 Harvey Sollberger to be featured in Paris, France concert

A full evening portrait concert of the works of composer-flutist Harvey Sollberger, a Marion High School graduate, will be presented by the French Flute Orchestra in Paris, France, on February 27.
