21 Noble, Ahomana back at Coe

A pair of Linn-Mar Class of 2015 graduates, Trevor Noble and Lotu Ahomana, are looking to make an impact for a Coe College football program that has achieved a solid amount of success over the years. In 2016, the Kohawks had a few All-Americans including Gagliardi Trophy runner-up Trevor Heitland, won a school-record 11 games, and an Iowa Conference Championship while still having seven student-athletes receive honors for the All-IIAC Fall Academic Team. In 2017, Noble and Ahomana are looking to make a splash and keep the train rolling in Cedar Rapids.
   
22 Atwater leads E-LC to battle

Former Linn-Mar Lion and Coe College Kohawk student-athlete Mark Atwater has officially begun the next chapter in his life. After one season of being an assistant coach at his collegiate alma mater, the former quarterback/linebacker has accepted a teaching job at Estherville-Lincoln Central where he will also be the head coach of the varsity football team in 2017.

The beginning of a new season in any sport brings a lot of buzz and excitement to communities, states, regions and even the entire nation, no matter the level of sport. Athletes, parents, friends, family, everyone seems to gets excited when summer winds down and heads into the fall sports seasons. In the state of Iowa, there are no major professional sporting franchises.
   
24 Stokes and Liberty down Sparks

Kiah Stokes and the New York Liberty took care of business on Sunday against the defending WNBA Champion, the Los Angeles Sparks. The Liberty team had a dominant second quarter of play and won 83-69 at home.
   
25 Fall sports season kicking off

It may still be summertime, but the fall sports seasons have arrived here in the state of Iowa. Schools from across the Hawkeye State have seen their cross country, golf, volleyball, swimming, and football programs all begin team mini-camps and practices. Some teams are in the search for new answers to questions that arose at the end of last season, while others look to build on their success.
   
26 Otting, Rupp winners at Pee Wee Classic

Marion youngsters Logan Otting and Morgan Rupp tamed the rigorous Brown Deer Golf Club in Coralville last Wednesday, August 2. Otting had the lowest score of the day out of all the competitors who took to the course, firing a one-over-par 36 while Rupp got the win with a 22-over-par 57 to gain top honors at the annual Pee Wee Tour Corridor Classic hosted by the PGA Pee Wee Tour - Iowa Section.
   
27 Paige inks deal with Charlotte

Watch out North Carolina: Marcus Paige is headed back to the Tar Heel State. The former Linn-Mar Lion standout and University of North Carolina Tar Heel signed a two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets last week.
   
28 Stokes, Liberty fall to Sparks

Linn-Mar alum Kiah Stokes and her New York Liberty suffered a 13-point loss on the road last Friday evening. New York fell back to .500 after a setback to the defending WNBA Champion Los Angeles Sparks.
   
29 Dillion Burr victorious at Cedar Rapids Junior

Marion native Dillon Burr reigned supreme on Tuesday, July 25, in the Boys 14-15 year old age division at the Iowa PGA Cedar Rapids Junior Open. Burr and 11 others went into battle at the Gardner Golf Course in Cedar Rapids with their eyes on the prize in their age group.
   
30 Indians ousted in heartbreaking game

The Marion baseball team's first appearance at the Iowa High School State Baseball tournament since 2011 ended in dramatic fashion on Tuesday, July 25, at Principal Park in Des Moines, Iowa. The Indians were defeated by Dubuque Wahlert by a 5-4 final tally after being in control for most of the contest.
