Locally based animal welfare organization Iowa Humane Alliance invites area residents to warm up theis winter by joining them for the sixth annual "Hot Soup-Cold Noses Benefit Supper" at the Marion American Legion, Friday, February 2, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Admission for the all-you-can-eat affair is $8.00 for adults, with kids under five eating for free. The menu of home-style offerings includes black bean chili, creamy potato, minestrone, broccoli cheese and wild rice with mushroom soup, plus French bread, corn bread and a selection of beverages and cupcakes for dessert.

Betty Lou Wurster, 78, formerly of Springville, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, officiated by Pastor Sue Ellen Sherman. Family will greet friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Springville Cemetery.
   
30 Donation made to local Ronald McDonald House

Leaders from Collins Community Credit Union visited the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City on Jan. 16 to deliver a meal donated by Carlos O'Kelly's to families staying at the house. In addition to delivering the meal, Collins employees donated a check for $2,065 from its 'Casual for a Cause' campaign.
