Keith E. Walton, 85, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Service was at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Troy Mills Christian Church, Troy Mills, conducted by Reverend Don McGarvey. The family greeted friends one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will take place at Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills, at a later date.

The Marion Public Library this September joins public libraries nationwide in marking the 30th anniversary of Library Card Sign-up Month by encouraging Marion metro area residents to either get their first library card or replace a lost card with one of the three new versions. These library cards are free for everyone and may be used at the Marion, Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha Public Libraries (all participants in the Metro Library Network).

27 Jessen attends prestigious national STEM program

Nolan Jessen, a graduate of Linn-Mar High School, represented Iowa at the National Youth Science Camp over the summer. Jessen joined 108 other delegates from 50 states and eight countries in the prestigious annual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program. The National Youth Science Camp, located in the Monongahela National Forest near Green Bank, West Virginia, integrates engaging and thought-provoking STEM presentations and hands-on activities with adventurous outdoor experiences and performing and applied arts.

Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, Iowa, with Vigil starting at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August, 31, 2017, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, with visitation one hour prior to service, conducted by Reverend Philip Thompson. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
30 U.S. Cellular launches national search for most valuable coach

U.S. Cellular's Most Valuable Coach program returns to honor high school coaches who lead by example, strengthen their teams, and give back to their communities. The winning coach will receive a $50,000 donation to the charitable organization of their choosing or their high school athletic department, a trip to Orlando, Florida, and on-field recognition at the January 2, 2018, Under Armour High School All-America Game.
