AnnaMarie Carpenter, 79, formerly of Central City, went home to be with the Lord on November 11, 2017. She passed comfortably at her home in West Salem, Wisconsin after a long fight. Ann was born on February 18, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa to Walter & Margaret (Sturtevant) Nieland. The family greeted friends from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Central City, Iowa. Funeral Mass followed at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church conducted by Father Scott Boone. Inurnment for immediate family will be at a later date.

Beverly A. Krumm, 83, of Hiawatha, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017, at the Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. on Friday at the church conducted by Father Mark Ressler.

The family greeted friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017, at Ascension Lutheran Church, Marion. Memorial Service were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Ascension conducted by Pastor Linda Livingston. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.

Dolores Joanne Sinkey, 87, of Central City, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha surrounded by her family. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at First United Methodist Church in Central City conducted by Rev. Brenda Ehret. Burial took place at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City.

Marion families are on a mission to make an impact in the lives of children in need. They are donating colorfully wrapped shoebox gifts to be sent to children around the world-many of whom have never received a gift before and have very little to call their own.

9 Local students to be represented at All-State Music Festival

A total of 50 Linn-Mar High School students and one Marion High School student were accepted to the Iowa All-State Band, Choir, or Orchestra. The Iowa All-State audition process was held in Independence, Iowa on October 21. Linn-Mar's Music Department had a total of 85 students audition for spots in the 2017 Iowa All-State Music Festival. Of the 50 students achieving top honors, 25 string players were selected for the All-State Orchestra. A total of 12 students were accepted for All-State Chorus with two alternates. Additionally, there were 13 students accepted for the All-State Band with five alternates. The 71st Annual All-State Festival Concert will take place at Hilton Coliseum on Saturday, November 18, at 7:30 p.m. Congratulations to the following students on their achievement:
