1 New courts open at Marion High School

Marion Independent School District Board President David Law, Superintendent Chris Dyer, administration and board members were joined by Chamber Ambassadors, City staff, and Marion Park Board representatives on Tuesday, August 22, for a ribbon cutting, celebrating the completion of new tennis courts at the high school.
   
2 Rezoning of Robins City Square to change look of Robins

Recently, the Planning and Zoning Commission in Robins opened a public hearing at its June 14, 2017, meeting to hear comments relating to the rezoning of all 5.4 acres of lots 3 and 4 at Robins City Square from a C-1 Central Business District to a Mixed Use Development and Planned Unit Development (PUD) District.
   
3 Cooperative building project comes to a close with open house

From a concrete foundation to the finished tiled bathrooms, students from Marion and Linn-Mar High Schools have finished their Marion Student House. All 14 students and Marion Building Trades program instructor Bruce Weisinger, welcome the public to view the house they have built at an open house on Friday, May 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. It is located at 1064 Alexis Court in Marion.
   
4 Sparks fly, causing fire at Delaney Concrete Construction

Another fire was ablaze in Marion last week, occurring at Delaney Concrete Construction, 120 35th Street. The Marion Fire Department was called at 4:27 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, and arrived on scene to heavy smoke and fire. Fire fighters were able to control the fire by 6:12 p.m., rendering the building under significant damage.
   
5 Sweets good enough to eat, even on a chilly day

It was a chilly day, followed with a delicious, chilly treat. The Freeze celebrated its first successful year of ownership by Tim and Jonnie Quigley last Friday, March 31, with Marion Chamber Ambassadors, its owners, and the wonderful student workers.
   
6 A Community Promise to Marion

Last Wednesday, March 8, Marion Economic Development Corp. (MEDCO) hosted its annual luncheon at the Cedar Rapids Marriott. MEDCO President Nick Glew spoke on a number of topics, both from last year and what the Marion Community will expect to see in 2017. However, one of the most important messages was the support of growth and retention as the number-one priority.
   
7 Marion volleyball season ends with gut-wrencher
