1 MISD Business Manager to retire

During a Marion Independent School District Board of Education regular meeting on November 13, agenda item 9, the resignation request from its current Business Manager John Donner, effective March 30, 2018, was presented. "After 41 years of working in school finance, my wife and I have decided it is time to retire and spend more time with family and other interests," wrote Donner in a November 2 letter to the Board.
   
2 Marion Fire responds to apartment complex fire

Residents of an apartment complex awoke to their fire alarms on Sunday, November 5, at 6:02 a.m. due to a fire in one of the apartments. According to the Marion Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched and responded to the three-story apartment complex fire located at 121 Southview Drive, Marion, within four minutes and immediately assisted one fire victim from the second floor.
   
3 At Large Council Candidates respond to forum questions

Bruce Cummins was unable to attend the forum hosted by the League of Women Voters held at Lowe Park on October 23, but he did respond earlier this week, as did his opponent Randy Strnad, when we emailed them a number of questions similar or identical to those asked at the LWV forum. 5 Linn Landowner Forum

A new Linn County movement is beginning, and will help landowners bring more nature to their land. On Sunday, September 17, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., Linn County will host a Linn Landowner Forum, and in addition, residents can talk personally with experts and landowners from 12:30 to 1 p.m. and from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The forum will be held at Clearwater Farms located at 4970 Lakeside Rd. in Marion.

Candidates running for Boards of Education for Linn-Mar Community School District and Marion Independent School District were asked by the Marion Times why they are running for office and what they want eligible voters to know about them prior to election day. The responses from the Linn-Mar Community School District are published this week (August 24, 2017) and the Marion Independent School District candidate responses will be published in next week's Marion Times (August 31, 2017).

10 Update on Voter Security Issue

A security lapse occurred in the Linn County Elections office on August 4, 2017. According to an August 16, 2017 news release, the Linn County Auditor's Office has been working diligently over the past 12 days with both law enforcement and online companies to minimize any potential issues. "We have appeared before the Board of Supervisors four times over the last 12 days, and we have been in constant communication with the Linn County Attorney's office."
