Lions losing streak now at four
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · February 16th, 2017

A brutal stretch of games for the Linn-Mar boys, basketball team has now resulted in four straight losses after suffering three setbacks to Iowa City West, Cedar Rapids Xavier and Waverly-Shell Rock in just a six-day span. The losing streak now puts the Lions at 7-12 for the 2016-17 campaign.

Linn-Mar squared off against West on Tuesday, February 7, and lost by a final count of 70-63 in a contest that saw a lot of balance scoring-wise. Sophomore Trey Hutcheson netted 19 points while Reese Phillips had one of his best performances with 16 points of his own. Rolan Ruff had 13 points and Tyler Voves finished with 11 to help the Linn-Mar cause. The Lions however only recorded two points from their bench as Jacob Robertson converted on one of his two field goal attempts.

Xavier disposed of the Lions by a 64-48 final score. Voves was the top scorer with 13 points while Hutcheson finished with 12 points for Linn-Mar.

Hutcheson again led the way with scoring in the 65-48 loss to the Go-Hawks on Monday evening. The sophomore had 16 points for the Lions but was the lone scorer in double figures for a Linn-Mar attack that sputtered in the losing effort.

Linn-Mar is set to round out its regular season schedule with a pair of road against against City High and Waterloo West this week.
