Indians earn another State trip
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · March 2nd, 2017

It wasn't pretty at times, but all that matters is getting the job done. And that's what the Marion girls' basketball team did on Tuesday, February 21. The Indians defeated a very talented Keokuk squad by a 46-39 score final in Marion.

Kayba Laube had one of her coldest shooting nights of the year and still managed to lead the Indians in scoring with 11 points, while Chloe Rice continued to show why she's one of the state of Iowa's top playmakers. The savvy junior finished with 10 points, five rebounds, three steals, and three assists to help the Marion cause. Senior leader Isabella Sade provided a nice defensive spark off the bench with five defensive boards and three blocks.

The win over Keokuk lifted Marion's record to 22-1 on the season. They earned the second seed in the Class 4A bracket for this year's Iowa Girls High School State Basketball Tournament and played the Boone Toreadors in their first round matchup on Wednesday, March 1, at Wells Fargo Arena (results were not available at press time). The winner of the Marion/Boone matchup will then play their semifinal matchup on Friday, March 3, at 11:45 a.m. The Class 4A State Championship game will be played on Saturday, March 4, at 6 p.m.
