For Alex and Mekena Diercks, the goal last Wednesday was to leave Plaza Lanes in Des Moines with Class 3A State Bowling Championships. While both fell just short of achieving their goals of becoming state champions, they were to able to make the trip home with their heads held high. Alex was second individually amongst Class 3A boys with a 470 total score while Mekena was fourth in the Class 3A girls field with a 469.

Mekena was leading after the first game, posting a monster score of 264 and just missed some opportunities in her second game, yet still finishing with a solid 205 score. Alex rolled a 255 opening game and followed up with a 215 in his second and it wasn't quite enough to pick up the win.

Des Moines Lincoln senior Hanna Duver finished with a total score of 500 to claim the Class 3A Girls Individual State Championship while Dubuque Hempstead's Justin Lanser's 480 total score was enough to win the Class 3A Boys Individual State Championship.

Alexis Tschantz also competed in the 3A tournament as she placed 21st overall with a 392 score while Marion's Alicia Steepleton was 43rd with a 288 total score.
