Dowling too much for Lions
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · March 2nd, 2017

The Linn-Mar girls' basketball bunch went toe-to-toe with one of Class 5A's toughest teams last week as they travelled to West Des Moines to do battle with Dowling Catholic. In a game that was tightly matched for most of the contest, Dowling pulled away late to pick up a 53-41 victory over Linn-Mar and ended the Lions' season.

Linn-Mar led 14-13 after one quarter of play but Dowling regained the lead in the second, and for the most part controlled the tempo throughout the remainder of the game to earn another trip to Wells Fargo Arena.

Kamryn Finley led the Lions with 18 points while Megan Murphy added eight points of her own. Carly Spies had four points and seven rebounds in the losing effort as well.

Linn-Mar finished the season with a 12-11 record. Dowling Catholic will play their arch-rival Valley on Wednesday, March 1, at 5 p.m. in Des Moines.
