The Marion Independent School Board met Monday, March 6, and discussed an important agenda item during the open portion of the session.

They said the new Longfellow Elementary's geothermal system is moving forward, but costs may slightly change. The initial proposal was for vertical wells only, but now they are looking at a a hybrid system-both vertical and horizontal. Quad Cities Geothermal believes they can do it, someone said.

As the Longfellow building is almost complete, it will take a little more time to install Geothermal. With weather permitting and funding availability, the project should not cause impediments. It was suggested, "There will be a pay back every year with this better system. In eight years, you will make money."
