The Marion girls' track program lost four key members to graduation last season, but they still managed to return four state qualifiers from the 2016 Iowa High School State Track and Field Meet. Seniors Lauren Lee and Sydney Brase are the veterans on this year's Indian team while sophomores Chloe Trca and Livvy Draves have their eyes on a breakout 2017 campaign after getting a taste of Drake Stadium last year.

The Indians experienced voids left by Maddie Bach and Andrea Ertz as far distance races are concerned, but expect Hallie Kephart to step up to the plate and take the challenge of leading Marion's distance runners. The sophomore placed 25th at the Class 3A State Cross Country Meet last October and will be gunning for her first trip to the world-famous blue oval when May rolls around.

Lee, Trca, and Draves all ran together on the team's Sprint Medley Relay last season and are expected to look for another member of the program to take the place of graduate Skylar Miller-Baker, the team's top 200-meter runner from a season ago.

Mahlia Brown and Breanna Smith were both state qualifiers in the shotput last year but the cupboard isn't empty for the Indians quite yet as Alicia Steepleton and Haley Blazek will lead the throwers into 2017. Blazek had the team's best throw for the discus in 2016 while Steepleton has traditionally been the better of the two when it comes to shot put.

The team is scheduled to compete this Saturday at Cornell College for the annual WaMaC Indoor Conference Track and Field Meet.
