Bohannon, Hawks earn #1 seed for NIT
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · March 16th, 2017

Making the NCAA Tournament is not only a goal but a dream to the student-athletes that step onto the floor for Division I Men's College Basketball. For this year's Iowa Hawkeye men's basketball team, they came up just a little short as the Selection Committee decided they were one of the first four teams left out of this year's field. However, for Linn-Mar alum Jordan Bohannon and the Hawks, a number one seed in the NIT is a pretty solid consolation prize. It means that Iowa will have another chance to play in front of the Carver-Hawkeye Arena faithful and could host up to three games should they continue to win.

Iowa competed against the South Dakota Coyotes yesterday, Wednesday, March 15, at 6 p.m. CST. The game was televised on ESPN2 and the winner of the matchup will then move on to play the victors of Wednesday night's matchup between Texas Christian University and Fresno State. Alabama, Richmond, Clemson, and Oakland round out the portion of Iowa's region.

Traditional powerhouse Syracuse, California and Illinois State all earned number one seeds in the 32-team field. The Hawkeyes are also accompanied by Big Ten foe Indiana, which played a part in dashing Iowa's hopes of making "The Big Dance" after thumping them 95-73.

The semi-final and finals match-ups will be played at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, March 28, and Thursday, March 30.
