While almost everyone feels that one's family is the most important group of people in their lives, sometimes that family could benefit from some planning so it operates in a beneficial way.

With that in mind, the Marion Home School Assistance Program is offering a workshop designed to help families. It is free and it is open to the public, primarily parents, but if they would like, they may bring a high school student with them. They do not have to be a student of the home school program.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 29, from 8 a.m. to noon, in the Linn County Regional Center, Room 900, at 1770 Boyson Road, Hiawatha.

The facilitators at the workshop will be Keith Hadley and Hrishi Baskaran. They do offer a book from which they use a number of important principles - The 3 Big Questions for a Frantic Family by Pat Lencioni, but it is not necessary to purchase this book.

Tom Ertz, Director of the MHSAP, emphasized that "We are not promoting the sale of the book but rather a process. We are also not promoting MHSAP."

Ertz added, "This is the third year we have done this, and [this year] we are opening it up to the public." He verified that parents from outside the Marion district are welcome to attend.

To register, either call Connie Ostroot (319-373-9209) or send a message to costroot@marion-isd.org which is her email address.

According to the flyer that Ertz included with the information, the interactive workshop format helps to answer these three basic questions:

What makes your family unique?

What is your family's top priority?

How do you talk about and use the answers to these questions?

Please share information about this event with any friends you think might be interested. Registration is first-come, first served, and space is limited.

(Hadley and Baskaran are principal consultants for the Table Group, which provides opportunities for leaders and teams to make their organizations healthier. They say there is no organization on the planet more important than the family, and they offer practical examples to help strengthen families.)
