Hydrant flushing in Marion

April 20th, 2017

Employees of the Marion Water Department have started flushing the water system this week and will continue through mid-June, if necessary. Flushing typically begins around 8 a.m. and may continue to 2 a.m.

Marion residents may notice some temporary discoloration of the water following flushing in your area and should postpone laundry until it clears. Use of hot water should also be minimized if redness is noticed, to prevent build-up within the water heater. The rusty color is due to accumulation of iron sediment in the water mains and is not harmful.

The flushing of the hydrants is to remove the sediment from the mains and to exercise and check operation of the City's fire hydrants. Questions may be directed to the Marion Water Department office at 319-743-6310.
