Indians Edge Solon, Thump Vikings

The Marion boys' soccer team is off to a quick start for the 2017 season. After a pair of victories last week over Solon and Vinton-Shellsburg, Marion now holds a record of 3-0, all of which came against WaMaC Conference opponents. Marion clipped Solon by a score of 3-2 while dominating Vinton-Shellsburg by a score of 9-0.

In the 3-2 win over the Spartans, sophomore Tim Schuttloffel led the Indians with one goal and one assist. Marion also had goals from junior Alex Whalen and sophomore Reice Frericks. Josiah Smith also assisted on a goal to help the Marion cause while John Owen had five saves in the victory.

Freshman Jaffer Murphy had a monster performance against Vinton-Shellsburg with four goals and a pair of assists. Fellow freshman Jacob Dieters also had two goals while Dylan Morahan, Elias Calore and Schuttloffel each found the back of the net once. Schuttloffel, Smith and Whalen all had assists as well. Carson Gorton needed just one save to earn the shutout win.

Marion will look to stay unbeaten with home games against Independence and South Tama County this week.
