Hiawatha Farmers' Markets to start up April 30
by Cynthia Petersen Correspondent · May 1st, 2017

Over 30 vendors will be in attendance when the farmers' market season begins in Hiawatha April 30.

A meeting was held April 4 at the Hiawatha Community Center to announce a new layout for the market, held every year from April to October in the 10th Avenue parking lot of Guthridge Park.

Kelly Willadsen, Hiawatha Park and Recreation Director, said the vendors will be located in the middle section of the lot instead of down the middle, as in previous years. Parking will be available at both ends of the lot, as well as on the streets next to the park.

According to Market Manager Dawn Ewoldt the City is doing its best to solve a problem that has been prevalent the past few years. Vendors at the far end of the market often lose out on business because customers are reluctant to walk the entire stretch of the parking lot.

Willadsen added that a possibility of a weekday market has been discussed, but would depend on the number of interested vendors. However, if the weekday market did materialize, it would not be available until mid-July, after youth league season is over.

The market will be open every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
