Kids learn bike safety at Memorial Day Bike Rodeo
by Cynthia Petersen Correspondent · May 1st, 2017

The Memorial Day Bike Rodeo and Parade will be held Friday, May 26, at 4:30 p.m. in Guthridge Park with a concert in the park at 6 p.m.

The first 50 kids to attend will receive a free helmet, compliments of The Iowa Association of Justice, with a free helmet fitting by members of Friends of Hiawatha Parks and Recreation Foundation.

Kids will also have the opportunity to decorate their bikes and go on a bike parade around the park led by Hiawatha Police Officers. Supplies to decorate will be available at the park. Parents are encouraged to decorate their own bike and ride along.

Following the parade, a concert will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., featuring Copperhead Creek.

During the concert, Hi-Crew Kiwanis will be cooking up brats and hot dogs, popcorn and drinks at a minimal cost. All proceeds will benefit Hi-Crew's Dictionary Project, which provides area 3rd graders with dictionaries.
