If you're a fan of the Linn-Mar Lions, the Marion Indians, or both schools and plan to attend this year's Iowa High School State Track and Field Meet, get ready. Pack your sunscreen, grab some snacks, and get comfortable because both schools will be well represented at Drake Stadium. Both high schools will have a combined 50 chances to score points between both the boys and girls, and will have their eyes on scoring a lot of points to try to claim state championships.

For the Linn-Mar teams, they are riding a huge wave of momentum into the State Meet as the boys won their district qualifying meet last Thursday. The girls were third at their district meet behind Cedar Falls and Dubuque Hempstead, but they certainly didn't underachieve by any means as they had multiple PR's, including a blazing quick 400 meter time from Payton Wensel. Wensel will eye individual gold in the 400 meter dash as well as the 400 meter hurdles while the Lions' sprint medley team will certainly be one of the favorites in Class 4A as well.

As for the boys, Linn-Mar enters the state meet with Class 4A's top time in the shuttle hurdle relay and Ryan Murphy will look to win again at the famed blue oval in the 1600 meter run.

Marion will be led by their incredible junior trio of Myles Bach, Blair Brooks, and Jeremy Fopma. Bach will try to repeat in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs while Fopma will be attempting to knock off his teammate and claim gold for himself. Brooks will lead the charge for the Indians in the field events as he will do battle in both the long and high jump events. For the Marion girls, they'll fight for points with several relay teams and six individual chances to score points.

The state meet will begin on Thursday, May 18, with Class 1A and Class 4A doing battle in the morning session while Class 2A and Class 3A will shine in the afternoon session. Both the Linn-Mar girls, shuttle hurdle relay team and boys' high jumper Trey Hutcheson will start off the meet in their respective events at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
