Stokes and Liberty start 2017 season
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · May 18th, 2017

The 2017 WNBA regular season tipped off over the weekend and former Linn-Mar prep Kiah Stokes is back in action for her third season as a professional basketball player. The former UConn Huskie started for the New York Liberty in their season opening 73-64 win over the San Antonio Stars.

Stokes saw almost 18 minutes of action, scoring just two points for the Liberty but provided a strong defensive presence as usual. Stokes grabbed four rebounds and blocked one shot as she aims to get back on the WNBA All-Defensive team after missing it one season ago.

Tina Charles led the Liberty team in scoring with 12 points while Epiphanny Prince scored 11 points off the bench to provide a nice spark for New York. Cierra Burdick, Shavonte Zellous, and Brittany Boyd each scored 10 points apiece to help the Liberty cause.

The Liberty will be back in action on Thursday, May 18, at home against the Minnesota Lynx.
