Marion throttles Benton, WD
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · May 18th, 2017

It was smooth sailing for the Marion girls' soccer team last week as they destroyed both Benton Community and West Delaware by 10-0 counts to improve their record to 7-5 overall. The Indians also edged Anamosa by a 1-0 tally earlier in the week as they finished 3-0 for the week.

In the beatdown of Benton Community, Tanea Westhoff scored five of the Indians' 10 goals in a career night for her. Kayba Laube scored two goals and assisted on another one while Saige Trca had a goal and four assists of her own. Melanie Noble and Mia Laube also had a goal and an assist to help the Marion cause.

Naomi Smith erupted for five goals of her own against West Delaware while Trca and Mia Laube each scored twice as the Indians defended their home turf nicely. Kayba Laube scored once as well to round out Marion's scoring.

Smith scored off of an assist from Trca in the 1-0 win over Anamosa to cap off a career week.

Grace Byers was the winning goalkeeper in all three games for the Indians.

Marion will round out regular season play on the road against Western Dubuque and Maquoketa this week.
