Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa on Monday, June 5, met with Okpara and Julie Rice with their children, Malcolm and Dylan, from Marion while the family was on vacation in Washington, D.C.

"Our family decided to take a trip to Washington D.C. to show my children the nation's capital," said Okpara. "We worked with the staff from Senator Grassley's office to set up tours, including the White House. We had the opportunity to meet with him and welcomed the chance to sit down with him."

Okpara mentioned, "Senator Grassley was very generous with his time and had almost a mini townhall with all the families that were visiting." Approximately four families were there and during their discussion with Grassley, they were able to ask any question they wanted.

Grassley also hosted the family in his office and spoke about a variety of issues and current events such as health care reform and tax reform.

"As I am someone who works in the behaviorial healthcare field, I chose to ask him about health care reform (specifically the bill they are working on), as well as how he views entitlement reform. We talked about bipartisanship in helping meet the goals of the community," said Okpara.

"I enjoyed meeting with the Rice family," said Grassley. "I appreciate the opportunity to meet face-to-face and speak with Iowans."

The Rice family said they had a wonderful time meeting with Grassley and were appreciative of his staff and his time.

Grassley makes it a priority to meet with Iowans visiting Washington, D.C., in addition to events in Iowa, including his Q and A meetings in each of the 99 counties at least once every year.

While in the nation's capital, Grassley sets aside two hours each day to meet with Iowans. He encourages Iowans to write him or visit one of his offices regarding questions or concerns they have with the federal government.

Meetings can be scheduled with Grassley at http://www.grassley.senate.gov/contact/request-meeting.
