by Report submitted · June 15th, 2017

On June 5, 2017, Scott Foens of Marion announced he's running in 2018 to represent the Marion, Ely, and Bertram citizens in the Iowa House. "The Republican led legislature has driven Iowa into the ground. I'm running to change that," declared Foens.

An Air Force veteran, Foens graduated from Tipton High School in 1983. After four years in the military, two working for the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence at NORAD and two overseas in Crete, Greece, including a temporary assignment at the base supporting the American Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, Scott completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in U.S. History.

After working across much of the United States, Scott returned to his roots in 2000, working for AEGON until 2010. In 2011, he joined the City of Cedar Rapids to lead their land and asset management computer system implementations and manages those systems currently.

Scott holds an MBA with a specialization in Finance from Saint Ambrose University along with a Master's Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University. He is a former Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic who has cared for the sick and injured starting at age 16, while still in high school.

Foens is a member of American Legion Post 298 and former board member of the Linn Community Food Bank. He is a Marion home-owner, married, with three children, one graduated from Marion Independent, one graduated from Linn-Mar and a third attending Linn-Mar.

Foens states he believes in local control, letting school districts, city councils, and county supervisors decide what's best for their communities. He is for fiscal responsibility and will bring good jobs and higher wages to Iowa; will invest in education; and will achieve clean water standards.

"I look forward to representing the outstanding people of District 68 in the Iowa House," said Foens.

Currently in Iowa House District 68 is Ken Rizer who was elected to the Iowa House in 2014.

Elections for the office of Iowa State Senate will take place in 2018. A closed primary election will be held on June 5, 2018, and the general election is to be held on

November 6, 2018.
