70 YEARS AGO 1947

Parking along Marion Boulevard, from Indian Creek bridge to the western city limits, will be prohibited in the future. The Marion City Council, at its meeting Monday night, expressed approval of passing an ordinance on this subject.

The resignation of Fire Chief Ed Card has been received by the Marion City Council. Card will be working full-time at the Marion Street Department. Mayor Mullin has not yet hired a replacement for the Fire Department.

P. G. Harlan has been issued a permit to build a 36-foot addition to his paint store, located at 1244 Seventh Avenue in Marion. The addition will be of cement blocks and brick. The estimated cost is $1,000. J. H. Stanaway is the contractor.

50 YEARS AGO 1967

Dale Lee Budweiser Distributing Company has advised Marion City Manager Pete Crivaro that construction of a 10,000 square foot building and warehouse will be built on Milwaukee Railroad property at 850 Old Marion Road. The company is now located in Cedar Rapids.

Linn-Mar High School graduation ceremonies will take place this week in the high school gymnasium. 69 seniors will take part in the activities.

30 YEARS AGO 1987

Tami Tasker, a freshman student at Marion High School, has been named the girls' track and field most valuable performer for this season. She was a key contributor in the 4x800 and the 4x100 relays. Molly DeWoody, senior, was second in the voting.

The Marion Community Center, 600 10th Avenue, is serving congregate meals for elderly residents. Reservations are necessary and must be made by 2 p.m. on day prior to attending. On the menu for the coming week is meatloaf and boiled cabbage, spaghetti and meat sauce, liver and onions or baked steak, ham and waxed beans, and cheeseburger with potato salad.
