Resident thankful to call Marion home
by Rene Gadelha · June 29th, 2017

Dorothy was definitely on-to something. While attending Sunrise Yoga at Lowe Park this weekend, I was inspired to write this note of gratitude to Marion, simply for being a beautiful community, and one that I appreciate living in with my family. Sure, no town is perfect, but the issues we're grappling with--roundabouts, libraries, and taxes--pale in comparison to other places. We could be dealing with the opioid epidemic, gang violence, crime sprees, homelessness, and other life-threatening issues that plague other cities across America. But we're not. We're a destination that people are flocking to, as evidenced by our growth trajectory. There are other towns, in Iowa alone, that are former shells of themselves, having to consolidate resources with neighboring municipalities and school districts, or even worse, they're losing resources altogether because their populations are shrinking. Let's be grateful for the types of challenges on our plate and approach them with open minds and civility. When compared to many other places in the world, I'm with Dorothy-there's no place like home.
