This is the time of the year you want your team to peak and that is the case for the Marion softball team. After a sluggish start to the season, the Indians have picked up some steam and are now winners of four in a row after sweeping both South Tama County and Cedar Rapids Washington last week.

Marion cruised passed STC with wins by the scores of 10-0 and 13-1. Eighth-grader Megan Kessens was the winning pitcher in the 10-0 triumph for the Indians. The youngster allowed just one hit to the Trojans and was backed up by some great performances at the plate. Maddie Knapp drove in a team-high three runs, Sydney Nielsen hit a two-run homer and Jordyn Dunn went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs.

Kessens won again in the second contest, going the distance and allowing just four hits. Nielsen and Shannon Sellers had three RBIs apiece while Gabby Goad went the yard and drove in two runs herself.

Marion dominated Cedar Rapids Washington on senior night with final scores of 15-0 and 12-0. It took just three innings for the Indians to win game one as they erupted for 14 runs in the second inning. Nielsen hit another homer and drove in a team-high five RBIs. Kessens earned her third win of the week, striking out four Warrior batters in the process.

Nielsen continued to punish pitchers in game two, launching another homer and finishing with six RBIs, capping off a career night for the sophomore. Kessens earned another win, striking out five and allowing just one hit.

The Indians now own a record of 13-21 overall and will begin postseason play this Thursday night against Maquoketa at home.
