Lions crush Wahlert, prepare for playoffs

After splitting a double-header with Cedar Rapids Xavier to start the week, the Linn-Mar softball team destroyed Dubuque Wahlert in both contests in a double-header by a combined score of 26-0. The Lions won game one by an 8-0 count and finished off the Golden Eagles with an 18-0 win in game two. With three more regular season games left on the schedule, Linn-Mar will get their first look at their regional semifinal opponent as they square off with Cedar Falls.

The Lions locked horns with the Tigers on Monday for a double-header before turning around and playing Cedar Falls again on Saturday in the Class 5A Region 4 contest. Entering the double-header on Monday, Cedar Falls owns a record of 7-30 overall and 3-20 in Mississippi Valley Conference play.

Three other teams are in the Region 4 bracket: Urbandale, Ankeny, and Des Moines Lincoln. In the opening round game, Lincoln and Ankey will do battle with the winner advancing on to play Urbandale in the regional semifinals on Saturday. Both semifinal contest will start at 7 p.m. with the Lions hosting Cedar Falls and Urbandale hosting the victor of Ankeny and Lincoln.
