Advertisement Indian Creek Nature Center to host second Monarch Fest July 8

Indian Creek Nature Center is going to hold a second Monarch Fest, set for Saturday, July 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For the kids, there will be games, face painting, learning activities, and crafts such as Monarch dot and chrysalis crafts.

Here are some other events that might interest you:

Milkweed seed ball making for RAGBRAI riders - they can carry some seed balls and plant them along the route.

Live butterfly demonstrations on the front yard of Amazing Space, the new building

Butterfly releases at noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. in front of Amazing Space



Talks from a number of experts:

11:15 a.m. - Daniel Gibbons (city of CR)

12:15 p.m. - Kelly Guillbeau (RAGBRAI seeding)

Others - Aaron Eckley (Monarch predators) and Karla McGrail (status and how to help Monarchs)



Butterfly caterpillars will be available for adoption, one per family in limited numbers.

During the month of July, a number of other interesting activities are offered, too. They include nature strolls from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on July 10 and July 24. The first is on the prairie and the second about trees of the woods. Stream walking is available on Saturday, July 15, at 1 p.m.

For those who want to try orienteering, go to ICNC on Monday, July 17, at 4 p.m.

CRST Concerts at the Creek are scheduled for July 22 and 29. Check the website for times, as they are not the same. Another musical possibility is Introduction to Guitar the afternoon of July 22.
