Letter to the Editor:

I really do appreciate Sen. Liz Mathis and Rep. Ashley Hinson providing us with a select list of new laws that were to take effect on July 1. However, I'm surprised that Ashley Hinson hasn't told us about the following actions taken by the Legislature that both Rep. Ken Rizer and her voted for that have significant impacts on residents of Marion and Linn County.

Ashley didn't mention their votes to reduce the minimum wage that has a direct impact on local residents who hadn't seen an increase since 2008. Ashley also forgot to mention that their votes on education were to limit growth in funding to 1.1%, which was even less than what Gov. Branstad was requesting. Unfortunately, she also neglected to mention her vote in favor of allowing children to use handguns. Ashley also forgot to mention her vote to eliminate Federal funding for Planned Parenthood, which cut $3 million for women's health care and preventive services. Last of all, in regards to the fireworks we've all been hearing these past couple of weeks, Ashley Hinson and Ken Rizer both voted for this.

These are five bills Ashley forgot to mention that she supported that really are not a better deal for Iowans.
