Maquoketa bounces Indians
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · July 13th, 2017

In an attempt to avenge an early season loss, the Marion Indians softball girls took the field for postseason play last Thursday afternoon against the Maquoketa Cardinals. The stage was set and simple: win or go home. Unfortunately for Marion, their season abruptly ended after a 10-0 defeat to their WaMaC rival.

It took six innings for the Cardinals to take down the Indians, jumping out to a quick 5-0 after two innings of play and never looking back. Marion finished the game with just one hit, a double from sophomore Sydney Nielsen, while the Cardinal bats stayed hot throughout.

Megan Kessens took the loss on the mound after almost four innings of work. Kessens allowed six runs, five of which were earned runs, and struck out two Cardinals. Mikayla Glovik relieved Kessens and allowed four runs, two of which were earned.

The loss ended Marion's season with a record of 14-23 overall. Maquoketa ended up going on to lose in the regional semifinal round against Mount Pleasant.
