Lions sweep Cedar Falls

The Linn-Mar baseball team is now riding a four-game winning streak after taking down the Cedar Falls Tigers twice on Friday night. The Lions disposed of the Tigers by counts to 13-4 and 9-4 to earn their 17th and 18th wins of the season, pushing their record of 18-16 overall.

In the 13-4 win, the Lion offense busted the game wide open in the sixth inning, scoring nine runs to put the game out of reach. Jared Zeiser and Kirby Kerry each drove in three RBIs apiece while Josh Gassmann drove in two runs. Josh Strauss struck out five Tigers in six innings of work to get the win on the mound.

In the 9-4 victory, Reese Phillips drove in three Lions to lead the squad offensively. Kerr struck out four in four innings of work to earn the win on the bump.

Linn-Mar was scheduled to round out the team's regular season on Wednesday night against Lewis Central at Grand View University in Des Moines. The Lions will begin postseason play on Friday, July 14, in Clinton against the Clinton River Kings. First pitch will be thrown at 7 p.m.
