Advertisement Marion 5th-grade girls place third in Pacesetter Great Four-State

The Marion fifth-grade girls' basketball team placed third in their division at the Pacesetter Great Four-State Championships on Saturday in St. Paul.

This tournament at Xcel Energy Center included seven teams who qualified through Pacesetter state tournaments in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa.

Marion, the Iowa champion, beat Lake City (MN) 24-16, lost to Detroit Lakes (the Minnesota champion) 22-16, and beat Cedar Falls (the Iowa runner-up) 25-17.

Team members Mallory Heinricy, Lexi Pierce, Natalie McAllister, Maddy Fortmann, Jema Heinricy, Sophie Paulson, Sydney Andresen, Emily Dune, Maddy Fromm, Kasia Hahn, and Ava Atwood. Coaches are Megan Andresen and Brian Heinricy.

Pacesetter Sports conducts basketball and volleyball camps in five states and hosts basketball tournaments for grades four through 12. See pacesettersports.net.
