Paige inks deal with Charlotte
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · August 10th, 2017

Watch out North Carolina: Marcus Paige is headed back to the Tar Heel State. The former Linn-Mar Lion standout and University of North Carolina Tar Heel signed a two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets last week.

Paige spent the 2016-17 season as a member of the Utah Jazz G-League affiliate, Salt Lake City Stars. This season, he will spend a majority of his time playing for the Hornets' G-League squad, the Greensboro Swarm.

Two-way contracts are starting to become a little more prevalent in the NBA. Paige, along with former Louisville Cardinal Mangok Mathiang, agreed to the two-way contracts last Tuesday evening. Two-way contracts allow NBA squads to sign two players with four years' experience or less with the ability to call them up to their NBA roster if needed for up to 45 days.

In his rookie season in the G-League, Paige averaged a shade over 12 points per game to go along with 2.3 assists per contest. The combo guard showed his range, canning 35.4 percent of his three-point attempts.

In the NBA Summer League for the Minnesota Timberwolves, the former Lion netted 10.9 points per game and upped his assist totals to nearly four per game. He was red-hot from deep, averaging 43.2 percent from three.
