Linn-Mar will host three bond issue informational meetings so that residents can learn more about the bond referendum which, if passed, will provide $80,000,000 for the district to build new schools and update existing ones.

The first is to be held on Thursday, August 24, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Indian Creek Elementary School multi-purpose room.

A second one will be heldis to occur on Wednesday, August 30, also from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. This meeting will be held at the Excelsior Middle School cafeteria.

The third is set for Tuesday, September 5, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Learning Resource Center Boardroom.

Guests will be able to tour the school facilities at the conclusion of each meeting.

Superintendent Quintin Shepherd, members of the Board of Education, and Linn-Mar staff will be available. Board members and Superintendent Shepherd will present details and answer any questions attendees may have.

To see more information before the meetings, visit www.linnmar.k12.ia.us and then click on "Bond Vote Set for September 12th." After the new screen opens, click on the words "Vote2017 web page" in the last line of text.

That will take you to a page with a list of items. You click on at each section for information about that particular topic. The topics are the following:

Other items will be on the ballot as well. Three Board of Education positions are coming open at Linn-Mar, and the three people who held those positions on the board are not planning to run for re-election. They are Rene Gadelha, Jim Green and Tina Patterson.

The candidate filing period ended on Thursday, August 3, 2017 and the nomination papers and public measures were to be delivered by the school to the County Auditor by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 4. (In Linn-Mar's case, that person was Angie Morrison.)

We do not have names of people running for the Linn-Mar Board as of press time. However, they should be available in next week's issue.

Linn-Mar's candidates also will be invited to participate in a forum sponsored by the Marion Chamber of Commerce and MEDCO so that voters may hear them speak and may pose pertinent questions. The Linn-Mar Candidate Forum is to be held on Tuesday, August 15, at 7 p.m. at Lowe Park (4500 10th Street, Marion).
