Atwater leads E-LC to battle
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · August 17th, 2017

Former Linn-Mar Lion and Coe College Kohawk student-athlete Mark Atwater has officially begun the next chapter in his life. After one season of being an assistant coach at his collegiate alma mater, the former quarterback/linebacker has accepted a teaching job at Estherville-Lincoln Central where he will also be the head coach of the varsity football team in 2017.

Atwater, a former All-Stater at Linn-Mar, comes from a family with a great football pedigree. His father Larry, and his brother Jordan both played and coached at Coe College and also coached in the prep ranks as well. Larry has since retired from coaching at Coe College, while Jordan has decided to take a year off from coaching. This will give the Atwater family the opportunity to watch Mark in his first season in control of the E-LC Midgets.

E-LC finished the 2016 season with a 5-4 record, including a four-game winning streak to close out the season. Atwater and his squad will look to build off of that momentum and a strong off-season as the regular season is right around the corner.

Atwater and the Midgets will open up the 2017 season on the road against Spirit Lake on Friday, August 25, at 7 p.m.
