Be inspired at new Uptown shops
by DJ Kauffman Correspondent · August 17th, 2017

Two adjacent businesses, Be Inspired and DiModa Boutique have recently opened in Uptown Marion. In celebration of their successful move from Dysart, both shops will host a combined grand opening and Chamber of Commerce ribbon

cutting event on Saturday, September 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their new 720 11th Street location.

Be Inspired is a home decor business, where owner Jill Deklotz offers merchandise for sale in several design spaces she has created. She is an interior designer with an eye for buying unique wholesale items from places like Las Vegas, Nevada; Minneapolis, Minnesota, and AmericasMart Atlanta (one of the largest marts), in Georgia. "My business is home decor, furniture, florals and gifts. It is not the traditional gift shop," said Deklotz. "I love helping gals make their home their castle on any kind of budget."

Deklotz started her first business in 2005, originally known as From the Heart, located on Center Point Rd. in Cedar Rapids. She closed the Center Point location in 2008 before moving to Dysart. She chose the name Be Inspired for her Dysart business, where she remained for nine years until transferring to her current Marion location.

According to Deklotz, DiModa Boutique owner Tammy Cannavo left her hair dressing career in order to begin working as a floral designer for her in the From the Heart business. Cannavo continued working for Deklotz when she moved to Dysart, even though it was an hour commute for her.

"Tammy has always been such a great supporter of my business and learned right alongside of me while I was starting my business." Five years later she started her own fashion business in Deklotz's Dysart address, because it was Cannavo's dream to own a boutique someday, Deklotz said.

Today, they continue to work alongside each other at their new, perfectly connected Marion location. Patrons can easily access both the DiModa Boutique and Be Inspired from one entrance.

Cannavo, who is a Marion resident, has designed her DiModa Boutique with a Martha's Vineyard feel, where patrons can browse through a variety of designer fashions and accessories with ease. She also travels as a buyer to Minneapolis and Atlanta in order to find trendy fashions in sizes small through 3x, purses, jewelry, shoes, and accessories.

On Saturday, August 5, we spoke with Be Inspired and DiModa Boutique first-time patron Laurie Opperman of Marion. She said she recently noticed both shops after walking through the nearby alleyway with her husband. "It is nice to have something in Marion."

Customers Aimee Thomsen, Cortney Hayes, and Jaiden Thomsen also spent time on Saturday smelling candle scents while enthusiastically looking about. Beth Conrad commented on how gorgeous all of the decor is.

"Our goal is always to make the customers feel special and always want to come back ... we strive for great customer service for everyone," Deklotz said.

Be Inspired is encouraging customers to sign up for its upcoming Holiday Decorating Program. There are two packages to choose from. The $150 package "includes decorating a tree, mantle, or stairwell and $50 worth of holiday decorations from the shop." The $300 package "includes decorating two trees, tree/mantle, or tree/stairwell, and $100 worth of holiday decorations from the shop." Contact Jill at 319-200-2383, text 319-981-9210, or email for more information.
