Advertisement Lions go back-to-back at Super Meet

The Linn-Mar boys' golf team came out guns a-blazin' at the annual Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet at Ellis Park Golf Course in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, August 10. The Lions won their second consecutive Super Meet team title, edging Cedar Rapids Xavier by eight strokes in the deep 14-team field.

Senior Ben Greif led the charge with a two-over-par 74, while Cole Yearling and Drew Brandel weren't far off with scores of 75 apiece. Zach Armstrong rounded out the scoring for the Lions with a very respectable 77.

Greif placed fifth individually after losing the card-back with Cedar Rapids Washington's Alex Slattery, who also fired a 74. Cedar Falls' Ben Bermel finished with a one-under-par 71 to claim individual medalist honors.

The team then played on Monday, August 14, at their own invitational at Hunters Ridge Golf Course. The team finished tied for sixth with Cedar Rapids Xavier with a total score of 325. Cedar Rapids Kennedy took the meet with a two-stroke lead, penciling a score of 312. Afterwards, the Lions looked to compete again at the Cedar Rapids Washington invite at the Amana Colonies Golf Course on Thursday, August 17, but were thwarted and placed in the middle of the pack, ending up tied for 8th out of the 16-team field. The Lions were 22 strokes back from the lead with a score of 331. Indianola took home the trophy with a total score of 309.

The Lions look to compete again with their own meet at Hunters Ridge Golf Course on Thursday, August 24, at 3:15 p.m. against Iowa City Liberty, Cedar Rapids Washington, and Waterloo West.
