Lions win three, drop two
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · August 31st, 2017

Things are already heating up for the Linn-Mar volleyball team as the team battled in five matches during their opening week of action. The Lions took down Cedar Rapids Washington in conference play and went 2-2 at a weekend tournament hosted by Ankeny Centennial.

It took four sets to dispose of Cedar Rapids Washington as Linn-Mar was in control for much of the night. Junior Ellie Von Lehmden finished with a team-high 11 kills as outside hitter while Ariana Rolle wasn't far off with seven kills of her own. Middle hitter Emily Strauss and outside hitter Mallory Duggan had six kills apiece while setter Megan Renner dished out 37 assists to help the Lion cause.

After opening the weekend at Ankeny Centennial with losses to Cedar Falls and Dike-New Hartford, Linn-Mar rebounded nicely with a pair of 2-0 wins over Urbandale and Bishop Heelan. Strauss had seven kills in the win over Urbandale while Renner had eight kills and 19 assists against Heelan.

The Lions battled on the road with Iowa City West on Tuesday, August 29, (results unknown at press time) and will attend the Cedar Rapids Washington Tournament on Saturday, September 2, as they look to improve on their 3-2 record.
