St. Paul's Lutheran Church's bell and Carillon System can once again be heard ringing from atop a bell tower in Marion. Besides the melodious music, residents can enjoy the reconditioned bell's beauty even at night, thanks to a new open tower design and permanent lighting.

The bell was installed on the cold morning of August 25, 2017, shortly after 9 a.m. The chilly weather had parishioners donning warm outerwear and blankets in the church's adjacent parking lot, as they witnessed first-hand the memorable event.

It took a team of four men and two tries to successfully lift the 407-pound, solid bronze bell to the top of the tall tower where it was then secured in place. Many of those in attendance watched the process intently, including Morris Grabau, son of OraLee and Leonard Grabau who originally donated the bell in 1978. Once the bell installation was complete, two installers shook hands and the group of on lookers sang a hymn.

The full congregation later participated in a bell unveiling/dedication ceremony on Sunday morning, August 27, at the church's 915 27th Street location.
