Nine decades in the making
by Staff report · August 31st, 2017

Another milestone has occurred in Marion as Farmers State Bank celebrated 90 years, joined by staff and Chamber Ambassadors with a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, August 29.

Previously Alburnett State Bank, it was originally opened for business in 1901 but was later liquidated but the State Superintendent of Banking. Alburnett businessmen and local farmers reopened the bank in 1927 and it was dedicated to serve local families.

After the purchase of Farmers State Bank in 1968, the Neighbor family has been committed to living up to their name. "We use the same philosophy our parents, Morris and Betty, used to start the business, and that is to give back to the community," said Gene Neighbor. "Our goal is to grow and embrace technology and its changes. We want to keep customers here to help grow our community. It's a 'round robin' effect."

Not only is Farmers State Bank celebrating 90 years this year, next year will be the 50th anniversary of ownership by Morris and Betty.

FSB has six locations, including its main facility located at 1240 8th Ave., Marion, along with offices at Collins Road Square, Edgewood Plaza Mall, Van Buren Village, Hiawatha and Alburnett.
