70 YEARS AGO 1947

Clifford Armstrong, owner of Marion Dairy, has sold his milk route to Northwood Dairy of Cedar Rapids. Armstrong will continue to make butter and ice cream at his business located at 661 11th Street in Marion.

This year's golf champions at Indian Creek Country Club are Ethel Gordon and Bernard "Peanuts" Price. Ten years ago, Mrs. Gordon was the women's champion and her caddy was Mr. Price.

Kendall's Hardware Store, on 7th Avenue across from City Park, has the following items in stock: Coleman and Super Flame oil burning heaters, $54 and up; coal pails, $1.10; metal top stove boards, walnut finish, $2.50 and up; and all sizes of stove and furnace pipes, elbows and accessories.

50 YEARS AGO 1967

Willis J. Schnell, 35, of 941 1st Avenue in Marion, has announced his candidacy for councilman in the First Ward. Schnell graduated from Marion High School in 1950. He is a job superintendent for the O. F. Paulson Construction Company of Cedar Rapids. His wife, Patricia, is a teacher at Starry School. They are the parents of two children, Eric and Connie.

The Marion Kiwanis Club is sponsoring A Magic Variety Review on the stage at the Armar Ballroom, located on Marion Boulevard. The date is September 22, and the times are 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. The show offers music, fun and fantasy, with Magic Jesters and The Bucknells. Tickets are $1.00 for adults and 75 cents for children.

30 YEARS AGO 1987

Sgt. Steven L. Davison, son of George and Zona Davison of Marion, has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal in South Korea. The medal is awarded to soldiers for meritorious service acts of courage and other accomplishments. Davison is a nuclear, biological and chemical supervisor with the Fifth Infantry.

The Marion Dairy Store, 790 25th Street, is offering good fresh milk, eggs and cheese. They also have many different flavors of ice cream for sale. This month's flavor is Apple Strudel, with 15 cents off per half gallon.
