by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · October 5th, 2017

Marion head football coach Tim Lovell and his Marion Indians picked up another big win last Friday night, this time over long-time rival Center Point-Urbana. With Ju'Corey Higgins and Chris Mohwinkle leading the charge on the ground and Trevor Paulsen throwing darts all night long, Marion improved its record to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in Class 3A District 4 play.

Higgins had a team-high 149 rushing yards on 14 carries, but it was Mohwinkle who did the damage on the scoreboard. The senior had 124 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Indians' offensive unit. Paulsen plunged into the end zone from three yards out to pick up his fifth rushing touchdown of the season while also going 12-for-22 passing with 131 yards and a 30-yard scoring strike to Blair Brooks. Brooks led Marion in receiving with six catches for 86 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior Jacob Lang had a monster game with 11 tackles, including two for a loss and a sack. Caleb Wagner, Connor Whalen, Nate Miller, Grant Meth and Nick Cole all recorded sacks as well, while Paulsen and Dawson Kirk picked off Stormin' Pointer passes to swing the momentum.

Fighting for a playoff spot, the Indians take on Clear Creek-Amana this Friday on the road in Tiffin before their showdown with district leader and perennial powerhouse West Delaware on Friday, October 13.
