The Linn-Mar football players fell into a hole early on against metro rival Cedar Rapids Kennedy and unfortunately could not dig themselves out when the clock hit zero. The Lions, who trailed by as many as 24, suffered their fifth loss of the season last Thursday night at Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids, by a 38-28 deficit.

Offensively, dual-threat quarterback Trot Carey led the charge with nearly 300 all-purpose yards, including 220 through the air. Carey's favorite target was Josh Hilsenbeck, who snagged nine catches for 108 yards and a score.

On the defensive side of the ball for the Lions, they struggled to contain the balanced Cougar attack as four players recorded 70-plus yards on the ground. The Cougars were led by senior Justin Johnson, who finished with 133 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Isaiah Garman led Linn-Mar defensively with 11 tackles while Trent Roling had eight solo tackles of his own.

The win pushes Kennedy to 5-1 on the season while the Lions fall to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in district play. Things don't get any easier for Linn-Mar as they host Cedar Rapids Prairie this Friday night.
