Marion's Jeremy Fopma led the charge at the Iowa City West Invitational last week in Iowa City. With 63 runners competing on the boys' side of the competition, Fopma cruised to the victory by about a 20-second margin over runner-up Kolby Greiner from the host Trojans.

Fopma's blistering time of 15:24 wasn't the only great performance from the Indians as Harrison Van Der Linden placed seventh overall with a time of 16:18, just eight seconds behind third place finisher Robert Laue from Cedar Rapids Prairie.

As for the Marion girls, it was Hallie Kephart who led the way with an eighth place run while Kelsi Huhndorf placed 14th in a field of 56 runners.

Both the Marion boys and girls placed fifth in the team race. Cedar Rapids Prairie won the boys' team race while Pleasant Valley was the champion for the girls' cross country race.

The Indians will put their running shoes back on this Saturday, October 7, at North Linn High School with race time set at 9 a.m. This race will lead up to the WaMaC Conference Tournament at Vinton-Shellsburg High School next Thursday, October 12, at 4 p.m.
