Indians dominate Clippers
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · October 12th, 2017

With a big district matchup looming against WaMaC rival West Delaware, the Marion football team took care of the task at hand last Friday evening in Tiffin. The Indians faced off against an over-matched Clear Creek-Amana squad and rolled to a 35-0 victory on a night where teams all over the state of Iowa battled both the weather conditions and the team they lined up against.

Offensively, the Indians were led by the aerial threat of Trevor Paulsen and Blair Brooks. Paulsen completed 11 of his 17 passing attempts for 209 yards and four touchdowns with Brooks as his primary target. The all-time leading receiver in Marion history hauled in five catches for 134 yards and three touchdowns. Grant Meth snagged Paulsen's other touchdown pass.

On the defensive side of the ball, Alex Whalen anchored the Indian defense with a team-high nine tackles and an interception. Mark Horcher, Caleb Wagner and Dalton Cannon all recorded sacks for Marion while Dawson Kirk snagged his fourth interception for the season.

The win pushes Marion's record to 5-2 overall for 2017 and 4-1 in Class 3A District 4 play. If the Indians win their next two contests, they'll lock up a berth in the Class 3A playoffs. Their opponent this Friday, West Delaware, is the Class 3A District 4 leader at 5-0 in district play and 6-1 overall.
