Hess runs wild in season finale win
by Brandon Leonard Correspondent · October 26th, 2017

Junior Alex Hess had a monster performance for the Linn-Mar football team last Friday night in front of the Lion faithful in Marion. Hess rushed for a career-high 253 yards as Linn-Mar picked up its second win of the season in the final game of 2017. The Lions ran their way to a 28-7 victory over Burlington, scoring all 28 points in the second half.

A long touchdown pass by Greyhound quarterback LT Beck to Cody Parrish got Burlington on the board in the first half, but the Lions kept their composure and made some halftime adjustments to the offense to get the ball rolling. Trot Carey placed the Lions on the board first with a third-quarter strike to Cevan Walton. Hess cracked the end zone twice on the ground from 75 and 43 yards out, while Isaiah Garman added a touchdown from 23 yards out in the fourth.

Linn-Mar finished the season with a record of 2-7 overall and 2-3 in district play. Burlington fell to 1-8 overall on the season with a 1-4 record in district play.

Both Linn-Mar and Burlington are out of contention in postseason play. The two teams will look to rest up and prepare for the 2018-19 season.
