It was a cold and windy day in Fort Dodge as teams from all over the state of Iowa did battle at the annual Iowa High School State Cross Country Meet. With the fierce weather conditions and a loaded field of runners, things weren't easy for the Linn-Mar cross country teams, but they both fought and dug deep for another successful outcome at the State Meet. Both teams placed seventh in the team race, led by a seventh place run for Lilly Geelan.

Geelan, just a freshman, led a trio of Lion ninth-graders in Fort Dodge with a time of 18:53.5 to place in the top ten. Micah Poellet placed 12th with a time of 19:11.0, while Chloe Skidmore was 37th with a time of 19:45.9. Senior Rachel Bohnenkamp ended her prep cross country career with a 47th place run while senior Abby Van Rheenen was scored in 95th. Sarah Murphy and A.J. Kendrick rounded things out for the Linn-Mar girls with 96th and 99th place finishes, respectively.

It was Johnston who claimed the Class 4A Girls State Championship, led by three top four finishes. Their sensational sophomore, Paige Horner, was the state champion with a time of 18:04.3.

As for the Lion boys, it was senior Colin Johnston who led the charge with a 14th place run while Dylan Dolezal and Brycen Snell pushed each other's limits to runs of 31st and 33rd, respectively. Trent Long was 46th, Tye Skilang was scored in 71st, Preston Stecklein ran his way to a 73rd place finish and Cadin Evans concluded things with an 81st place run.

Ankeny junior Tim Sindy edged Dowling Catholic's Matthew Carmody at the line to win the Class 4A boys' individual title, winning by less than a second. Pleasant Valley reigned supreme in the Class 4A team race, winning the Class 4A title with 61 points.
